Hard to Be a God is a 2013 Russian epic medieval science fiction film directed by Aleksei German, based on the 1964 novel of the same name by Arkady and Boris Strugatsky. The story follows a team of scientists who travel to the planet Arkanar, which is culturally and technologically centuries behind. The inhabitants of the planet execute anyone they consider an intellectual. The scientists are ordered not to interfere, but one of them, Rumata, wants to stop the senseless murders of brilliant minds.
